EThekwini Municipality Bursary Scholarships for 2017

EThekwini Municipality is offering excellent bursary opportunities to South African citizens interested in a rewarding career, in Civil, Electrical, Electronics, Chemical, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Land and Quantity Surveying, Natural, Biological and Ecological Sciences.

The successful applicants will be required to enter into a bursary agreement, with EThekwini Municipality to study at an approved
South African public university leading to a Bachelors degree.

The benefits of the bursary include:

accommodation fees, tuition fees, examination fees, a book allowance and a once off computer allowance (subject to compliance with the agreement).

Preference will be given to applicants who have passed at least their first year of studies at a recognised institution, and applicants must include their full academic record. Applications from students who are only due to start their studies in 2017 must include proof of their acceptance from a South African public university and matric results.

Unisa has Increased its Fees by 6 Percent for the 2017 Academic Year.

JOHANNESBURG – Unisa has increased its fees by 6 percent for the 2017 academic year.

The university said it took into consideration the recent #FeesMustFall protests.

It acknowledged the difficulty of identifying the missing middle and has made provisions to support students registering for studies next year.

For undergraduates, there be a differentiated increase ranging from R40 to R80 per module.

Honours students will pay R200, up from R65 per module.

Postgraduate students who choose to receive materials electronically will receive a further 5 percent to 10 percent discount.

Unisa Council has also budgeted R99-million financial support for registered South African students who do not qualify for NASFAS funding.

International breakthrough

Her venture into the US may be her biggest success yet. In 2011, Mukwevho together with her father launched an international heavy goods delivery company, Mukwevho Enterprises.

The company is based in Johannesburg. The opportunity came about when a friend of her father’s, who is based in Chicago in the US, approached her in order to launch a franchise of the logistics business last year.

 

Word of advice

Because of her past experiences Mukwevho says she is eager to uplift others. “My advice to every aspiring entrepreneur, especially women, is that they must stop this mentality that I want to be rich. Any entrepreneur who wants to get into the business space must a bigger vision than just accumulating money” says Mukwevho

Besides running her businesses, Mukwevho runs a foundation that mentors and financially supports 15 tertiary students. Some of which have just recently graduated.

Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Bursaries for 2017

Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust is offering bursaries for fellowships and training in certain Paediatric disciplines in 2017 (see below).

The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital is a legacy project of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital Trust (NMCHT). The Trust has built a new children’s hospital in Johannesburg that will open its doors in early 2017.

Th is 200-bed quaternary care facility will be a state-of-the-art specialist paediatric academic referral hospital providing child-centred best quality medical and surgical services to children of Southern Africa, irrespective of their social and economic status.

In anticipation of the opening of the hospital in 2017, and with funding support received from the National Skills Fund (NSF), the Trust has established a bursary scheme to support the skills development of doctors at fellowship level at South African universities.

It is against this background that the Trust is now offering bursaries to South African-registered medical practitioners wishing to specialise in subspecialties required by the Hospital in 2017 and beyond.

If you are currently wishing to further your career in one of the disciplines listed below, you are encouraged to apply. The fellowships will be for two or three years, depending on the discipline.

The disciplines that will be considered are:

• Paediatric cardiology
• Neonatology

• Paediatric cardiothoracic surgery

Solomon Mahlangu NYDA Scholarship

It serves as a living memorial to Solomon Mahlangu (1956-1979), a man of high principle and a Freedom Fighter, who was deeply committed to the revolutionary struggle for the people of his country.

The National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) is responsible for main streaming and integrating youth development in all organs of the state, private sector as well as civil society.

The NYDA is calling South African young people who intend to study at registered Universities and Universities of Technology to apply for the Solomon Mahlangu Scholarship Fund for the 2017 academic year.

Objectives of the Fund

To provide financial support to youth in the form of scholarships to increase their chances of accessing quality higher education in their field of study

To increase chances of employability or entrepreneurship based on the positive correlation between level of education and employability

To establish the largest scholarship programme in the country, which will enable youth to study locally and abroad Empower the youth (14-35) with education to enable them to compete favourably in the labor market.

Contribute to the development of critical and scarce skills

Eligibility Criteria

  • High school learners who plan to attend one of the participating universities after completing the National Senior Certificate
  • Must meet University Admission Points Score (APS) and achieve an average of 70% in the NSC exams

  • Financial neediness – combined household salary of less than R15 000 a month
  • Reside in rural/semi-rural areas
  • Engage in community service

  • A copy of the latest academic transcript or record on an official letterhead or logo (if you are already at an Institution of Higher Education).

Bursary Scholarship Opportunities at IThemba Laboratory

IThemba Laboratory for accelerator based sciences is a group of multidisciplinary research laboratories administered by the NRF. Based at two sites in the Western Cape and Gauteng, these facilities provide for:

  • Basic and applied research using particle beams
  • Particle radiotherapy for the treatment of cancer
  • The supply of accelerator-produced radionuclides for medical and industrial applications

Minimum Requirements
