This opportunity qualifying students to be part Of tertiary transition (Bridging) programme to improve your matric results to allow you entry into tertiary education The programme offers school in the following and areas:

  • Physical Science.
  • Computer Skills.
  • Engineering Drawings & Design.
  • Business Skills  and
  • Advanced Placement

Mathematics and Physical Science are upgraded and the matric examination rewritten at the end of 2019. The students also have the opportunity to go for educational excursonsThe programme comprises a full academic year and is in Johannesburg.

This sponsorship is only for a period of 12 months (for 2019) and covers  tuition. Textbooks, stationery, varsity application fees, full boarding & lodging, travel and monthly allowance.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Currently in matric with academic potential or Matriculated in the past two years (2017 or 2018)

  • Must be from the Kumba Mining communities (Northern Cape)

The successful learners will be placed on the following trades:

• Millwright, Fitter, Rigger, Electrician, Diesel Mechanic, Earth Moving, Boilermaker, Measurement Control & Instrumentation Please note that the successful Candidates will be appointed as external learners on an Unemployed (18.2) contract.

1. Primary Job Purpose.

The successful Candidates will be afforded an opportunity to enrol in an external Unemployed (18.2 B1) Learnership programme leading to the selected qualification as a qualified Artisan.

2. Minimum Entry Requirements.

• Matric with Mathematics (not Mathematics Literacy) and English (Minimum 40% pass), Physical Science will be an added advantage, or, • N2 with 4/5 subjects as per the specific Discipline Requirements or, • NCV Level – 4 in appropriate trade.

3. Trade Test Requirements

3.1. A minimum of N2 Subjects/ certificate with applicable subjects for the relevant trade as specified. 3.1.1. Mathematics 3.1.2. Engineering Science; 3.1.3. Relevant Trade Theory;

3.1.4. Industrial Electronics, or Engineering Drawings or Plating Structural Drawings

3.2. The appointed learner will sign an agreement where the learner commits him / herself to perform as required and obtain the minimum N2 or any required subjects applicable to the trade, necessary for qualifying

3.3. Where applicable the Company will support the appointed learner to achieve the minimum requirements by allowing the learner to attend a full trimester to obtain the relevant N2 subjects for the trade.

4. Learnership Conditions.

• Must be prepared to work underground/surface and in plants “dusty areas”, and an eleven-day fortnight shift where applicable; • Must be a South African Citizen; • Must pass the relevant Rehabilitation Functionality Assessment (RFA) & medical certificate of fitness, and • Selection of Candidates will be based upon the Anglo American Platinum selection and recruitment procedure.

Management Assistant-Welder and Millwright Positions

Interested? You will need a certificate or statement of results if certificate is not yet issued (progress reports will not be accepted) with the following subjects:

MILLWRIGHT: Minimum N2 with Mathematics • Engineering Science Industrial Electronics • Electrical Trade Theory • Fitting and Machining Trade Theory

PLATER / WELDER: • Minimum N2 with Mathematics • Engineering Science • Platers’ Theory  as subjects.

Management Assistant: Minimum N6 with Communication, Information Processing, Office Practice and Computer Practice as subjects.

You must pass an aptitude test and interview, as well as a medical assessment, before the learnership will commence.

Preference will be given to HDSA & WIM.

Learnerships include: • Stipend/allowance per month • Learnership agreement • Subsidised accommodation and meals (only for students outside Kathu) • Toolbox (will become the property of the learner after the successful completion of the trade test) • Free PPE • Free training.

Training Programme for Artisan Learner:

  • 1st year: Institutional (Theory) Training at SIVOS Technical Training Centre, Sishen Mine
  • 2nd year: On-the-job/core training at Sishen Mine
  • 3rd year: Complete Trade Test
