SAIPA learnership

The SAIPA learnership is aimed at candidates who want to qualify as a professional accountant. It runs in conjunction with the South African Institute of Professional Accountants (SAIPA). Students on this programme serve their articles over three years in our Assurance line of service, specialising in accounting. Professional accountants (SA) build strong relationships and a thorough understanding of each of their clients. They are able to offer advice that is closely tailored to each client’s business and its needs, addressing challenges as well as anticipating and creating opportunities for success.

To apply for the SAIPA learnership programme:

  • You should have completed or be in the process of completing your accounting degree with a recognised institution
  • You must be willing to enter into a three-year training contract and eventually qualify as a professional accountant

Skills and behaviours we are looking for

  • Good communication and interpersonal skills – fluent in Afrikaans and English
  • Computer literate – good knowledge of Pastel, MS Word and MS Excel
  • Must be able to work under pressure
  • Sound administration skills
  • Must be able to work overtime when necessary

Responsibilities

  • Capture transactions in accounting records
  • Perform reconciliations
  • Bookkeeping to balance sheet
  • Prepare financial statements
  • Perform tax calculations and complete tax returns
  • Complete VAT returns
  • Perform general accounting functions according to PwC methodologies
  • Assist managers with various client matters, including administrative work

Trainees will have the opportunity to perform all activities related to the accounting function.

Momentum Short-term Insurance, in partnership with INSETA (Insurance Sector Education and Training Authority), is offering young South Africans a fantastic learning opportunity in the short-term insurance industry.

ROLE PURPOSE

The Learnership Programme, which will commence in February 2019 at our head office in Centurion, offers participants the opportunity to develop their skills and gain short-term-insurance specific experience. Furthermore, successful graduates of this programme will receive a formal National Certificate: Short-Term Insurance, NQF level 4.

  • Passed Matric (a pass mark of 60% or above for English will be a requirement and Math will be beneficial)

  • Be computer literate

  • Currently unemployed or no work experience

  • Not be studying at any other institution

  • Not be registered for any other learnership

  • Interested in pursuing a career in Short-term Insurance

  • Have a passion for learning and the business environment

  • Have a clean criminal and credit record

The successful learners will be placed on the following trades:

• Millwright, Fitter, Rigger, Electrician, Diesel Mechanic, Earth Moving, Boilermaker, Measurement Control & Instrumentation Please note that the successful Candidates will be appointed as external learners on an Unemployed (18.2) contract.

1. Primary Job Purpose.

The successful Candidates will be afforded an opportunity to enrol in an external Unemployed (18.2 B1) Learnership programme leading to the selected qualification as a qualified Artisan.

2. Minimum Entry Requirements.

• Matric with Mathematics (not Mathematics Literacy) and English (Minimum 40% pass), Physical Science will be an added advantage, or, • N2 with 4/5 subjects as per the specific Discipline Requirements or, • NCV Level – 4 in appropriate trade.

3. Trade Test Requirements

3.1. A minimum of N2 Subjects/ certificate with applicable subjects for the relevant trade as specified. 3.1.1. Mathematics 3.1.2. Engineering Science; 3.1.3. Relevant Trade Theory;

3.1.4. Industrial Electronics, or Engineering Drawings or Plating Structural Drawings

3.2. The appointed learner will sign an agreement where the learner commits him / herself to perform as required and obtain the minimum N2 or any required subjects applicable to the trade, necessary for qualifying

3.3. Where applicable the Company will support the appointed learner to achieve the minimum requirements by allowing the learner to attend a full trimester to obtain the relevant N2 subjects for the trade.

4. Learnership Conditions.

• Must be prepared to work underground/surface and in plants “dusty areas”, and an eleven-day fortnight shift where applicable; • Must be a South African Citizen; • Must pass the relevant Rehabilitation Functionality Assessment (RFA) & medical certificate of fitness, and • Selection of Candidates will be based upon the Anglo American Platinum selection and recruitment procedure.
