Should you have applied for the Sassa R350 grant and then got feedback that your application was rejection, you can appeal to Sassa and have your application reconsidered. This comes after many lodged complaints against Sassa and the Department about being unfairly rejected and there being delays resulting in rejections and late payments.
Sassa encourages those who are not happy with the outcome of their application to either call 0800 60 10 11 or email email@example.com with their complaints in order to access the recourse mechanism and has stated that “the appeal process is still in discussions.”
“For one to qualify for the COVID-19 grant they must be either unemployed without any kind of income, or not receiving any kind of government assistance such as UIF and NSFAS, or social grants or any other financial support and must be above the age of 18”, Sassa commented after complaints about 3.3 million applications being declined were lodged.
However, many have said that they do fit the criteria but have still been rejected.
Sassa spokesperson, Paseka Letsatsi has said, “We have gone to the Department of Social Development to say we need to work on the directions because, in any case, we did not have the appeal mechanisms. We need to open up the appeal process so that people who are aggrieved are able to communicate with us and we can see how we can resolve the matter as quickly as possible.”
